Why do my lights flicker when the AC turns on?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
This is usually caused by a sudden voltage drop when the compressor starts, which draws a large amount of current. It can also indicate that the AC unit is on the same circuit as the lights, loose wiring, or an undersized electrical panel. If it happens frequently, have an electrician inspect your system.
Why It Matters
Frequent flickering may indicate an overloaded circuit or loose connection that could lead to more serious electrical problems.
