How do I reset a tripped circuit breaker?

By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®

Open your electrical panel and look for a breaker handle that is in the middle position or slightly toward OFF. Flip it firmly to the full OFF position, then flip it back to ON. If it trips again immediately, unplug devices on that circuit and try again. If it still trips, call an electrician.

Why It Matters

Knowing how to safely reset a breaker can restore power quickly, but frequent tripping indicates a problem that needs professional attention.
