What is a home electrical panel and when should it be upgraded?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
The electrical panel is the distribution center for your home's electricity. You should upgrade it if you have fuses instead of breakers, your panel is rated for less than 100 amps, you are adding major appliances, or if your panel is a known fire hazard model like Federal Pacific or Zinsco.
Why It Matters
An outdated electrical panel cannot safely handle modern electrical loads and may pose a fire risk. Upgrading improves safety and capacity.
