Why do my lights flicker when the AC kicks on?

When your AC compressor starts, it draws a large surge of power. If the circuit is shared with lighting, that sudden draw can briefly drop the voltage and cause lights to dim or flicker. This is often normal for older homes. However, persistent or severe flickering could mean an undersized circuit, loose wiring, or an aging AC unit that needs service.
