When should I overseed my lawn?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Early fall, from late August through September, is the ideal time to overseed in South Jersey. The soil is warm, nights are cool, and fall rains help establish new grass. Spring overseeding in April to May is also effective but faces more competition from weeds. Mow your lawn short, rake to expose soil, spread seed, and keep the area consistently moist until the new grass reaches mowing height.
Why It Matters
Overseeding fills in thin areas, improves lawn density, and introduces improved grass varieties that are more drought and disease resistant.
