When should I aerate my lawn?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
The best time to aerate a cool-season lawn in South Jersey is early fall, from September through October. Aeration removes small plugs of soil to reduce compaction, improve water and nutrient absorption, and encourage deeper root growth. Spring aeration is also effective but avoid aerating during summer heat. Aerate before overseeding for the best results.
Why It Matters
Aeration is one of the most beneficial lawn care practices. It relieves soil compaction and allows air, water, and nutrients to reach the root zone.
