What is the best time to plant trees in South Jersey?

By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®

Early fall, from September through October, is the ideal time to plant trees in South Jersey. The soil is still warm enough for root growth while the cooler air reduces stress on the tree. Spring, from late March through May, is also good. Avoid planting in summer heat when trees struggle to establish.

Why It Matters

Proper timing gives your trees the best start, leading to stronger root systems and healthier growth for years to come.
