Should I xeriscape my yard?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Xeriscaping is a landscaping approach that reduces or eliminates the need for supplemental water. It works well in South Jersey for sunny, dry areas or homeowners who want to reduce lawn maintenance. Use drought-tolerant plants like lavender, sedum, ornamental grasses, and yucca. Group plants by water needs. Add mulch and decorative stone. Start with one area rather than converting your entire yard at once.
Why It Matters
Xeriscaping can reduce outdoor water use by 50 to 75 percent while creating a beautiful, low-maintenance landscape.
