How do I prevent erosion on my property?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Plant deep-rooted ground covers, shrubs, and trees on slopes to hold soil in place. Install terracing or retaining walls for steep areas. Use mulch or erosion control blankets on bare soil. Redirect downspouts away from slopes. A rain garden at the base of a slope can capture runoff. For severe erosion, consult a landscaping professional about grading and drainage solutions.
Why It Matters
Unchecked erosion damages your foundation, destroys landscaping, and can create safety hazards. Prevention is much cheaper than repairing the damage.
