What should I do if my home is damaged by ice?

Check for ice dams on your roof, which form when melting snow refreezes at the eaves and prevents proper drainage, causing water to back up under shingles. Use a roof rake to safely remove snow from the edges of the roof from ground level. Do not chip ice off your roof, as it can damage shingles. Look for interior signs of ice damage: water stains on ceilings, peeling paint, or dripping water. Place buckets under active leaks and call a roofer. Check for ice-damaged gutters and downspouts once the ice melts.

Ice damage can cause roof leaks, gutter collapse, and ice dams that allow water to penetrate your home's exterior, leading to rot, mold, and structural damage.
