What do I do if I smell gas in my home?

By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®

Leave immediately. Do not flip any light switches, use electronics, light matches, or create any spark. Call 911 from outside your home. Then call your gas company. Do not re-enter your home until emergency personnel or the gas company says it is safe.

Why It Matters

A gas leak can cause an explosion. Immediate evacuation without creating any spark is the only safe response. Seconds matter.
