How do I respond to a wildfire threat?

If authorities issue an evacuation order, leave immediately. Close all windows and doors, move flammable furniture away from windows, and shut off natural gas at the meter. Leave exterior lights on to help firefighters see your home in smoke. Take your emergency go bag, essential documents, medications, and pets. Have your car parked facing out and ready to go. If you are trapped, call 911 and provide your exact location. Turn on all interior lights for visibility.

Why It Matters

Wildfires can move faster than a person can run. Delaying evacuation by even a few minutes can be deadly. Having a go bag ready before fire season starts saves critical time.
