How do I respond to a break-in or burglary?

By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®

If you arrive home and suspect a break-in, do not enter. Go to a safe location and call 911. If you are inside and hear someone, leave immediately if you can, or lock yourself in a room. Do not confront the intruder. After police arrive, document what was taken. Call your insurance company to file a claim.

Why It Matters

Your safety is more important than any possession. Property can be replaced. Confronting a burglar puts you at unnecessary risk.
