When should I rake my leaves?

By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®

Rake leaves before the first heavy snowfall, typically by mid-to-late November in South Jersey. A thick layer of leaves can smother your lawn and promote fungal diseases. If you have a mulching mower, you can mulch leaves into the lawn for free fertilizer instead of raking.

Why It Matters

Leaves left on the lawn over winter can damage grass, harbor pests, and create slippery walkways. Proper timing makes leaf cleanup easier.
