When should I clean my gutters in the fall?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Clean gutters at least twice during fall: once in mid-to-late autumn after most leaves have fallen, and again after the last leaves drop before the first freeze. Clogged gutters can cause ice dams, roof damage, and basement flooding. Consider installing gutter guards to reduce the frequency of cleaning needed.
Why It Matters
Fall gutter cleaning is the most critical of the year. Blocked gutters in winter lead to ice dams and water damage that can cost thousands to repair.
