What should I do to close my pool for winter?

By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®

Balance water chemistry and shock the pool before covering. Lower the water level below the skimmer and return lines. Drain and store pump, filter, and heater according to manufacturer instructions. Add winterizing chemicals and install a winter cover securely. Remove ladders and store pool accessories in a dry location to prevent weather damage.

Why It Matters

Proper winterization prevents freeze damage to pool equipment and structure. A well-closed pool opens much faster and easier in spring.
