How do I protect my pipes from freezing?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Insulate pipes in unheated areas like crawl spaces, attics, and garages with foam pipe insulation. Keep cabinet doors under sinks open to allow warm air to circulate. Let faucets drip slowly during extreme cold. Seal gaps where pipes enter the home. Keep your thermostat at 55 degrees or higher even when you are away.
Why It Matters
A frozen pipe can burst and cause thousands of dollars in water damage. Prevention is far cheaper than repair.
