How do I protect my foundation from spring moisture?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Ensure gutters and downspouts are clean and direct water at least 5 feet away from the foundation. Check that the ground slopes away from your home on all sides. Install or test your sump pump before spring rains arrive. Seal any visible foundation cracks. Consider extending downspout pipes further from the house if you notice water pooling near the foundation.
Why It Matters
Excess spring moisture against your foundation can cause cracks, settling, and basement flooding. Proper drainage is your home's best defense.
