How do I prepare my pool for summer?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Remove the pool cover and clean it before storing. Clean debris from the pool and brush walls and floor. Fill water to the proper level and check all equipment, including the pump, filter, and heater. Test and balance water chemistry, adjusting pH, alkalinity, and sanitizer levels. Shock the pool and run the filter for 24 hours before swimming.
Why It Matters
Proper opening procedures prevent algae growth, protect equipment, and ensure your pool is safe and ready for the first swim of the season.
