How do I prepare my home for fall leaves?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Rake or mulch leaves regularly to prevent them from smothering your lawn. A thick layer of leaves can block sunlight, trap moisture, and promote fungal diseases. Use a mulching mower to chop leaves into small pieces that decompose naturally and feed your soil. Collect excess leaves for composting or curbside pickup before the first snowfall arrives.
Why It Matters
Leaves left on the lawn over winter can damage grass, harbor pests, and create slippery hazards on walkways.
