How do I get my garden ready for spring?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Clean up dead plant material and debris from garden beds. Test your soil pH and amend as needed. Add 2 to 3 inches of fresh compost or aged manure. Divide perennials that have become overcrowded. Prune dormant shrubs and trees before new growth appears. Apply a layer of mulch to suppress weeds and retain moisture as temperatures warm.
Why It Matters
Spring garden preparation sets the foundation for a productive growing season. Healthy soil produces healthier plants with less effort.
