Why does my outside faucet drip?

Outdoor faucets, also called hose bibs or spigots, drip for the same reasons indoor faucets do: a worn washer, O-ring, or cartridge. Because outdoor faucets often freeze, a cracked valve or pipe can also cause dripping. Start by replacing the washer or O-ring. If the faucet still drips, the valve seat may be damaged or the pipe could be cracked, requiring replacement. Always shut off and drain outdoor faucets before winter to prevent freezing damage.
