When should I replace my water heater?

Replace your water heater if it is more than 10 to 12 years old and showing signs of failure: rust-colored water, strange noises, leaks around the base, or inconsistent water temperature. If repairs are costly and the unit is near or past its lifespan, replacement is usually more economical. New water heaters are much more energy efficient and can lower your utility bills.
Why It Matters
A failing water heater can burst and flood your home. Replacing it proactively on schedule prevents emergency situations and saves money on repairs.
