How do I install a garbage disposal?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Start by turning off power at the breaker. Disconnect and remove the old unit if replacing. Install the mounting assembly on the sink flange following the manufacturer's instructions. Attach the disposal unit to the mounting ring by rotating it into place. Connect the drain pipe to the disposal outlet using the provided gasket and flange. Connect the dishwasher drain line if applicable. Wire the disposal according to local codes, then restore power and test before securing all connections.
Why It Matters
Installing a garbage disposal is a manageable DIY project that adds convenience to your kitchen and reduces food waste going into the trash.
