How do I fix a loose sink drain?

A loose sink drain is usually the drain flange at the top of the sink that has loosened over time. From under the sink, tighten the large lock nut that holds the drain flange in place using slip-joint pliers or a basin wrench. If the drain still wobbles, remove it, clean off old plumber's putty, apply fresh putty around the flange, and retighten from below. Replace the rubber gasket between the flange and sink if it is compressed or damaged.
Why It Matters
A loose drain can leak water under your sink, damaging your cabinet and promoting mold growth. Fixing it early prevents water damage and keeps the drain properly sealed.
