How do I find a hidden water leak?

By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®

First check your water meter reading, then avoid using any water for two hours. If the meter still moves, you have a leak. Look for damp spots on walls or ceilings, warped flooring, peeling paint or wallpaper, and musty odors. Listen for running water sounds when all fixtures are off. Check outdoor spigots and irrigation systems. A plumber with leak detection equipment can find hidden slab or wall leaks.

Why It Matters

Hidden leaks can cause extensive structural damage, mold growth, and skyrocketing water bills before you even notice them.
