Do I need flood insurance in New Jersey?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Flood insurance is required by lenders if your home is in a FEMA-designated flood zone. Even if you are not in a high-risk zone, flood insurance is recommended. New Jersey has experienced flooding in many areas during heavy storms, and standard homeowner's policies do not cover flood damage.
Why It Matters
Flood damage is excluded from standard policies. Just a few inches of water can cause tens of thousands of dollars in damage without flood coverage.
