Why does my home have hot and cold spots?

By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®

Uneven temperatures are typically caused by poor insulation, leaky ductwork, blocked or closed vents, an improperly sized HVAC system, or a room's exposure to sun and wind. Second-floor rooms, rooms above garages, and rooms with large windows are especially prone. Check that all vents are open and unobstructed. A professional can test ductwork for leaks, check system sizing, and recommend zoning solutions to balance temperatures.

Why It Matters

Hot and cold spots reduce comfort and often indicate energy waste, driving up utility bills while leaving parts of your home uncomfortable.
