What is the best temperature setting for my thermostat?

For energy savings and comfort, set your thermostat to 68 degrees in winter when home and lower it to 60 to 65 degrees when sleeping or away. In summer, set it to 78 degrees when home and 80 to 82 degrees when away. A programmable or smart thermostat handles these adjustments automatically. Each degree you lower the thermostat in winter saves about 1 percent on heating costs.
