What is radiant floor heating and is it worth it?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Radiant floor heating uses heated water tubes or electric mats installed under your flooring to warm rooms from the ground up. It provides even, silent heat and eliminates cold floors. Installation is expensive, typically $6 to $20 per square foot, and is easiest during new construction or major renovations. It is most worthwhile in bathrooms, basements, and additions where comfort justifies the cost.
Why It Matters
Radiant heat is more efficient than forced air in well-insulated spaces and eliminates the drafts and noise associated with traditional heating systems.
