How do I prepare my HVAC system for winter?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Schedule a professional furnace tune-up in early fall. Replace the air filter and test your thermostat before the first cold snap. Seal air leaks around windows and doors. Insulate exposed pipes in basements and crawl spaces. Disconnect and store garden hoses, and shut off outdoor faucets. Clear debris from the outdoor AC unit and cover it if desired. Install a programmable thermostat to optimize heating schedules.
Why It Matters
Winterizing your HVAC system prevents breakdowns during cold weather, improves efficiency, and reduces the risk of frozen pipes.
