How do I dehumidify my home?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Use exhaust fans in bathrooms and kitchens during and after activities that produce moisture. Run a portable or whole-home dehumidifier to maintain humidity between 30 and 50 percent. Ensure your AC is properly sized and maintained, as it naturally removes moisture when running long enough. Fix any plumbing leaks promptly. Improve ventilation in crawl spaces and basements. Also check that your clothes dryer vents outside.
Why It Matters
Controlling humidity protects your home from mold, mildew, and wood rot while improving comfort and indoor air quality.
