What renovations decrease home value?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Overly personalized renovations, such as bold paint colors, unusual tile patterns, or niche room conversions like a home theater with permanent fixtures, can turn off buyers. Removing bedrooms to create larger rooms, installing a pool in a climate with short summers, and poor-quality DIY work can also reduce your home's value. Stick with neutral, broadly appealing updates.
Why It Matters
Renovations that limit your buyer pool can make your home harder to sell and may actually reduce its market value.
