When should I re-caulk my bathtub?

Re-caulk your bathtub when you notice cracked, peeling, or moldy caulk, which is typically every one to three years. Remove old caulk completely, clean and dry the area, and apply a fresh bead of 100 percent silicone caulk. Allow 24 hours to cure before exposing it to water.

Why It Matters

Damaged caulk lets water seep behind tiles and fixtures, causing mold, rot, and costly water damage.
