How often should I clean my gutters?

By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®

Clean your gutters at least twice a year: once in late spring after trees have finished dropping seeds and once in late fall after all leaves have fallen. In September, clear out summer debris to get ahead of the peak leaf fall in October and November. If you have overhanging trees, you may need quarterly cleanings. Clogged gutters can cause water damage to your roof, siding, and foundation.

Why It Matters

Neglected gutters are one of the most common causes of water damage in homes, leading to costly foundation and roof repairs.
