When should I have my chimney inspected?

By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®

Have your chimney inspected annually, ideally before the heating season starts. The National Fire Protection Association recommends three levels of inspection: Level 1 for routine checks, Level 2 when ownership changes or after a chimney fire, and Level 3 for suspected hidden damage.

Why It Matters

Annual chimney inspections catch creosote buildup, blockages, cracks, and other fire hazards before they become dangerous.
