How often should I test my carbon monoxide detectors?

By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®

Test your carbon monoxide detectors monthly by pressing the test button. Replace batteries at least once a year or when the low-battery alert sounds. Replace the entire detector unit every 5 to 7 years, or according to the manufacturer's instructions. Install detectors on every level of your home and near sleeping areas.

Why It Matters

Carbon monoxide is a silent, odorless killer. Working detectors are your only warning. Regular testing ensures your family is protected.
