How often should I have my chimney cleaned?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Have your chimney inspected and cleaned once a year, ideally before heating season begins. This applies whether you have a wood-burning or gas fireplace. Creosote buildup in wood-burning fireplaces can ignite and cause a chimney fire that spreads to the rest of the home.
Why It Matters
Chimney fires are dangerous and destructive. Annual cleaning and inspection are inexpensive compared to the damage a fire can cause.
