How do I maintain my outdoor faucet?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Before winter, disconnect all garden hoses, drain the faucet, and shut off the interior shutoff valve if you have one. Install an insulated faucet cover. In spring, check for leaks by turning on the faucet with a hose attached and looking for drips at the handle or spigot base. Replace worn washers promptly.
Why It Matters
A frozen outdoor faucet can burst and cause water damage inside your walls. Simple seasonal maintenance prevents expensive plumbing repairs.
