How do I create a home safety plan?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Install smoke detectors on every level and inside each bedroom. Place carbon monoxide detectors near sleeping areas. Create and practice a fire escape plan with two ways out of every room. Establish a family meeting spot outside. Keep fire extinguishers on each level, especially near the kitchen. Store emergency contact numbers in visible locations. Review the plan with everyone in your household annually.
Why It Matters
A practiced safety plan can mean the difference between a calm evacuation and panic during a fire, carbon monoxide leak, or other emergency.
