What should I do the first week after moving in?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
Change the locks, locate the main water shutoff valve and breaker panel, test all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, clean or replace HVAC filters, change the toilet seats, deep clean carpets, and change the garage door code. Introduce yourself to your neighbors and set up mail forwarding.
Why It Matters
The first week sets the foundation for safe, comfortable homeownership. Addressing these basics prevents small issues from becoming problems.
