How do I create a home emergency kit?

By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®

Stock a waterproof container with enough supplies for at least three days: water (one gallon per person per day), non-perishable food, first aid kit, flashlights, batteries, phone chargers, cash, and important documents. Include medications, pet supplies, and baby items if needed. Store the kit in an accessible location. Check and refresh supplies every six months. Know where your utility shutoffs are.

Why It Matters

During a power outage, storm, or other emergency, having supplies ready eliminates panic and ensures your family's basic needs are met.
