Smart plugs and outlets are an easy, affordable way to start building your smart home. Plug a lamp or small appliance into a smart plug, and you can control it from your phone or set it on a schedule. Smart switches replace your existing wall switches and give you control over hardwired lights and ceiling fans. Smart switches are more permanent and cost more to install but look cleaner than plug-in adapters. Start with smart plugs for table lamps and small appliances, then add switches for frequently used lights.
