What should a renovation contract include?

A renovation contract should include the contractor's full contact information and license number, a detailed scope of work, material specifications including brands and models, a payment schedule tied to milestones, start and completion dates, a change order process, warranty information, and provisions for handling disputes. It should also specify who pulls permits and who is responsible for cleanup. Never sign a contract with blank spaces or vague descriptions.

A thorough contract protects both you and the contractor. It is your legal recourse if the work is not completed as agreed.
