How do I choose between granite, quartz, and laminate countertops?

By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®

Granite offers natural beauty and heat resistance but requires annual sealing. Quartz is engineered, low-maintenance, and non-porous but costs more and can be damaged by high heat. Laminate is budget-friendly and easy to install but less durable and can be damaged by water. Granite costs $40 to $100 per square foot installed. Quartz runs $50 to $120. Laminate is $20 to $50.

Why It Matters

Countertops are one of the most visible and expensive elements of a kitchen. Choosing the right material balances budget, durability, and style.
