How do I appeal my property tax assessment?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
You can file an appeal with your county's Board of Taxation. You need evidence that your home's assessed value is higher than its true market value, typically using recent comparable sales. Appeals must be filed by April 1 in most counties. You can represent yourself or hire a tax appeal attorney.
Why It Matters
A successful appeal can reduce your property taxes by thousands of dollars per year. Many homeowners overpay because they never appeal.
