What is a blower door test?
By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®
A blower door test measures how airtight your home is. A powerful fan is mounted in an exterior door frame, depressurizing the home so outside air flows in through every leak. The test measures the total air leakage rate, which tells you how much energy is being lost through gaps and cracks. It also helps identify exactly where leaks are located so they can be sealed effectively.
Why It Matters
Air leakage is one of the biggest sources of energy waste. A blower door test quantifies the problem and guides your air sealing efforts.
