Should I invest in solar panels?

By Bob Millaway, South Jersey Community Expert & REALTOR®

Solar panels are worth considering if your roof has good sun exposure, you plan to stay in your home for at least 5 to 7 years, and your electric rates are average or above. Federal tax credits cover 30 percent of installation costs. In New Jersey, net metering and Solar Renewable Energy Certificates add further savings. A typical system pays for itself in 7 to 15 years and can eliminate most of your electric bill.

Why It Matters

Solar panels can dramatically reduce or eliminate your electric bills while increasing your home's value and reducing your carbon footprint.
