What should I look for during an open house?

Look beyond the staging. Check for water stains on ceilings, cracks in the foundation, the age of the HVAC and water heater, and how well windows and doors seal. Listen for running toilets or dripping faucets. Also notice the neighborhood: traffic levels, noise, and nearby properties.

Small issues you spot during an open house can indicate larger problems or give you leverage during negotiations.
